Recently a friend underwent an 18 hour surgery that included: removing one eye, part of his nose, and part of his cheekbone; then plastic surgeries on his nose, cheekbone and eye. This will be followed by chemotherapy, radiation and many more plastic surgeries. At this time he has no taste buds.
If you are anything like me, the news of these conditions serves as a reminder of the impermanence and preciousness of life.
And, you ask: “Virgil, What does this have to do with you working with enterprises struggling to attract clients and seniors wanting to go beyond success to significance?”
Wouldn’t you agree that person above and those supporting him are selling him on overcoming massive obstacles and having a fulfilled life?
The foundation to one’s success is to adopt the mindset that we are all selling all the time, either to ourselves or to others.
Marketing and sales are simply recognizing opportunities to learn how we may be of genuine contribution to others.
My successful clients see mastering marketing and sales as fundamental to realizing their dreams. In many instances over my past 40+ years of working with hundreds of business people, their hurdle was learning and implementing an important marketing skill; such as giving a presentation, networking, creating a Complete Partnership Referral program ™, making that dreaded “cold call” or asking for the order.
In most cases, the biggest barrier was fear (False Expectations Experiences Appearing Real). The top three are fear of failure, fear of rejection and fear of taking a risk. However, the one thing that kept them going was a dream that was in alignment with their Life Purpose; and, the constant awareness that if they did not make the effort to market and sell their business and themselves, their dreams would end up as throw away trash.
Look at sales and the marketing of you and your business as ways for you to make your contribution real in and to the world.
Yes, marketing and sales are as important as life itself.
Life is short. Will you realize your most important dreams? Will you make the contribution you could? Will you take charge of your resistance and fears in pursuit of your goals?
Life is short. Will you take every opportunity to master yourself in order to realize your highest ideals? Will you work and live with more passion, more joy, truly seek fulfillment?
Life is short. Will you notice and pass up opportunities to complain and make excuses? Will you make it your highest priority to do what is difficult and deeply rewarding?
Life is short. Will you dig further into your creative resources and emerge with ideas and solutions that can make a difference in the lives of your clients?
Life is short. Will you join the 100 +1% club (even if there seems to be 100% of what another person is about or represents you dislike, you will go beyond that 100% to find 1% of who and what they do and are that you truly believe makes a positive difference?) Will you find a way to tell them and others of it?
Life is short. Will you make a difference by staying laser focused on what you contribute? Will you daily practice the “Four-mula 4 $uccess” (see my post Four-mula 4 $ucess blog post).
Life is short. Are you wasting any part of your life by concentrating on what you are getting more of than on what you are giving? Are you working at purposefully being of contribution, the marketing and selling of you and your business, as if it mattered as much as life itself? It does.
