Can you pinpoint What Was The Best Day Of Your Life?
My best day started out like any other. At the time, I had no idea about its significance. It was the day I met my partner and wife Carol Ann. It was Labor Day, 1977, to be exact. And it changed the path of my life to this date.
I was recently divorced and dating Penny, a lady with whom I enjoyed a great physical relationship. I believed I wanted nothing more. Yet, my recurring prayer was to meet a woman to whom I would freely commit to for all years to come and for that it happen before I was a nursing home candidate.
On that eventful day, Carol was the date of a former corporate executive client. Penny and I met her at his pool party that evolved to a Blues Brothers concert at the Universal Amphitheater and then back to his home for dinner. During the concert intermission Penny turned to me and asked, “Where are you?” I answered, “Both here and not here.” She responded, “I know, you are over there with her.”
It was right then, during the intermission, that I told Penny when we got back to Alan’s home I was going to ask him how serious he was about Carol. If he was not really involved I would ask his permission to ask her for her phone number. He responded, “Just dating her. May the best man win!”
Penny and I exchanged a hug good bye when I walked her to her door that night. We both knew we would not be together again,
I called Carol the next day and have had no interest in being even casually involved with another woman since.
I am eternally grateful that Carol and I connected on that day. We were truly in the right place at the right time. That day in 1977 was the most pivotal day that I remember in my life thus far. Interestingly, I cannot even think of a competing moment; and, it is a day that I give thanks for every day for that reason.
